Friday Eve and a Burger Pie. Thats the Shizzle!

It's Friday Eve....sounds better than Thursday right? Right...well thats my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Our local 94.7 Highveld Stereo radio station this morning, had an interview with an Australian stand-up comedian on.

It was Jim Jeffries, somone I had never heard of before but after his rave about South Africa's Burger Pies, I thought it best I google and YouBoob him to see more of his stuff.

(He's playing his Alcoholocaust show at the JHB Civic this week and yeah, tickets are still available *punt punt*)

You see, Jim's here on an SA tour at the moment and all the South African's he meets want to take him to show of all the nice fancy restaurants and hot spots in Johannesburg. However, he's discovered the BP Express 24 hour garage shop Burger Pies and that's all he wants.

Jim says that the person who invented these gems should be knighted!! A Burger Pie is all the scrumptuousness of a cheese burger but all wrapped up in a yummy tastey flakey pastry baked to golden perfection.

I must tell you from personal experience that, at 2am in the morning, a Burger Pie is the Fucking Shizzle but when it repeats at 7am the next morning, the taste is NOT so hot. Och, perhaps that was all the booze and cigars consumed the night before...och fuck, that's a whole other post.

So, celebrate your Friday Eve with a BP gas station Burger Pie and coke tonight and tell me what you think.

Zdzisław Beksiński

Beksiński was born in the town of Sanok, in southern Poland. After studying architecture in Kraków, he returned to Sanok in 1955. Subsequent to this education, he spent several years as a construction site supervisor, which he hated. At that time, he became interested in artistic photography and photomontage, sculpture and painting. He made his sculptures of plaster, metal and wire. His photography had several themes that would also appear in his future paintings, presenting wrinkled faces, landscapes and objects with a very bumpy texture, which he attempted to emphasize (especially by manipulating lights and shadows). His photography also depicted disturbing images, such as a mutilated baby doll with its face torn off, portraits of people without faces or with their faces wrapped in bandages. Later, he concentrated on painting. His first paintings were abstract art, but throughout the 1960s he made his surrealist inspirations more visible.

Beksiński had no formal training as an artist. His paintings were mainly created using oil paint on hardboard panels which he personally prepared, although he also experimented with acrylic paints. He abhorred silence, and always listened to classical music while painting.

A prestigious exhibition in Warsaw in 1964 proved to be his first major success, as all his paintings were sold.

Beksiński threw himself into painting with a passion, and worked constantly (always to the strains of classical music). He soon became the leading figure in contemporary Polish art. In the late 1960s, Beksiński entered what he himself called his "fantastic period", which lasted up to the mid-1980s. This is his best-known period, during which he created very disturbing images, showing a surrealistic, post-apocalyptic environment with very detailed scenes of death, decay, landscapes filled with skeletons, deformed figures and deserts. These paintings were quite detailed, painted with his trademark precision. At the time, Beksiński claimed, "I wish to paint in such a manner as if I were photographing dreams".

Despite the grim overtones, Beksiński claimed some of his works were misunderstood; in his opinion, they were rather optimistic or even humorous. For the most part, though, Beksiński was adamant that even he did not know the meaning of his artworks and was uninterested in possible interpretations; in keeping with this, he refused to provide titles for any of his drawings or paintings. Before moving to Warsaw in 1977, he burned a selection of his works in his own backyard, without leaving any documentation on them. He later claimed that some of those works were "too personal", while others were unsatisfactory, and he didn't want people to see them.

The 1980s marked a transitory period for Beksiński. During this time, his works became more popular in France due to the endeavors of Piotr Dmochowski, and he achieved significant popularity in Western Europe, the United States and Japan. His art in the late 1980s and early 1990s focused on monumental or sculpture-like images rendered in a restricted (and often subdued) color palette, including a series of crosses. Paintings in these style, which often appear to have been sketched densely in colored lines, were much less lavish than those known from his "fantastic period", but just as powerful. In 1994, Beksiński explained "I'm going in the direction of a greater simplification of the background, and at the same time a considerable degree of deformation in the figures, which are being painted without what's known as naturalistic light and shadow. What I'm after is for it to be obvious at first sight that this is a painting I made".

In the latter part of the 1990s, he discovered computers, the Internet, digital photography and photomanipulation, a medium that he focused on until his death.

The late 1990s were a very trying time for Beksiński. His wife, Zofia, died in 1998; a year later, on Christmas Eve 1999, his son Tomasz (a popular radio presenter, music journalist and movie translator) committed suicide. Beksiński discovered his son's body. Unable to come to terms with his son's death, he kept an envelope "For Tomek in case I kick the bucket" pinned to his wall.

On 21 February 2005, Beksiński was found dead in his flat in Warsaw with 17 stab wounds on his body; two of the wounds were determined to have been fatal. Robert Kupiec (the teenage son of his longtime caretaker), who later pleaded guilty, and a friend were arrested shortly after the crime. On 9 November 2006 Robert Kupiec was condemned to 25 years in prison, and his accomplice, Łukasz Kupiec, to 5 years by the court of Warsaw. Before his death, Beksiński refused a small loan to Robert Kupiec (a few hundred złotys; approximately $100).

Although Beksiński's art was often grim, he himself was known to be a pleasant person who took enjoyment from conversation and had a keen sense of humor. He was exceptionally modest and somewhat shy, avoiding public events such as the openings of his own exhibitions. He credited music as his main source of inspiration. He claimed not to be much influenced by literature, cinema or the work of other artists, and almost never visited museums or exhibitions. Beksiński avoided concrete analyses of the content of his work, saying "I cannot conceive of a sensible statement on painting". He was especially dismissive of those who sought or offered simple answers to what his work 'meant'.

The town of Sanok, Poland, houses a museum dedicated to Beksiński. A Beksiński museum housing 50 paintings and 120 drawings from the Dmochowski collection, opened in 2006 in the City Art Gallery of Częstochowa, Poland. A 'Beksiński cross', in the characteristic T-shape frequently employed by the artist, stands in the Nevada desert.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND FREE PRINTABLE PARTY INVITATIONS

So, I have noticed that a few people land on these Disney coloring pages looking for free, printable party invitations of Alice in Wonderland. Now, I am not sure whether they are looking for the traditional animated Alice or Alice in Wonderland invitations based on the recent movie starring Johnny Depp etc. So I have made two invites - one shows the Cheshire Cat and I think it's a deliciously wonderful green and black creation that suits all ages, but especially a teen party - then I have made a more traditional printable invitation based on Disney's original Alice.

At first when I heard this new concept, I thought - WTF?

We all know what the Brazillian Wax is and what it looks like - now Brazillian Blow? I thought "Jaysus, I have to find out what THAT is!"

Well, Plonkers, its a new Progressive hair straightening system that has finally arrived in South Africa! It's not dirty at all! (I must say I was a little disappointed)

Here's what its all about...

Its a Hydro Progressive Hair Straightening, or more popularly known as the Permanent Blow Dry.

Girls with unruly curls, celebrate: a new straightening system from Brazil is arriving in South Africa, ready to tame even the worst-behaved hair. The process, called “hidro escova progressiva” (hydro progressive blow-dry) heat-seals the hair cuticle with keratin and vitamins (however this is not the same as keratin treatment as that is only a surface treatment).

Progressive hair straightening is a method of breaking the hair structure and rebuilding it in a new way and it really wipes out the frizz. Unlike Japanese thermal straightening, which is basically a perm in reverse, the Progressive straightening system causes minimal damage to the hair.

Applications last about 3-4 months, depending on the hair type. However, as the name implies, the treatment is progressive, and each time you have it done, your hair becomes straighter with less frizz.

What makes it different?

Unlike other straightening systems (Ukon or Japanese straightening) the treatment will fade away gradually, meaning that it will eventually grow out and leave you with natural waves once more (less frizz though). It also takes less salon time and generally costs less than the Yuko or Opti-Smooth system. The treatment leaves the hair with more body than the Yuko System and can be used on dyed/bleached as well as virgin hair. The system is also more cost effective as no special equipment is required. Also, the Tropical system does not have formaldehyde in as some of the other Brazilian blow dry treatments have. Formaldehyde can cause poisoning for both stylist and client.

The Secret is out. Nicole Richie recently took to her Twitter account to recommend "Brazilian Blow Dry" after a fan asked what she does to maintain her straight and frizz free hair.

I have curly hair and it can be quite a headache to deal with. If you have curls, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. Hours spent blow-drying and avoiding the rain and humidity. At R900 a pop! I won't be rushing out anytime soon (unless I get a a fat surprise bonus - who the fuck am I kidding) to get the Brazzie Blow.

My Fuck You's this week:

Fuck you to my car's clutch cable that snapped in the middle of a busy traffic circle during rush-hour at 4pm in the afternoon just about 500m from my daughter's school. All those fuckers peeping and gesturing for me to get out the way. Where the fuck must I go when my car doesn't have a clutch and I'm on an incline. Do I crawl up my own arsehole? Piss off!

However, My Knight-In-Shining-Boerewors came to my rescue with tow car and tow rope. Smart man! I was in tears on the way home because I didn't know how to keep the rope tight without my breaks smelling like they were going to explode or trying to view all this through streaming tears.

Story not over. It happened again yesterday! It snapped off mid-busy intersection and my Knight-In-Shining-Boerewors had to come to my rescue again. He deserves a medal for coming to the rescue again, even though his wife was screaming down the phone at him. I'm deeply sorry for taking out my frustrations on you! I would rather evacuate my bowels in a public place than go through that again.

Fuck You to my stupid scale. It hasn't budged since I started gym two weeks ago. I thought I'd have lost at least 1 fekkin kilogram by now. Urgh! Keep plodding along on that Orbitrek machine, gurl!

I totally believe in Karma.

Karma n. in Indian religions is the concept of action or deed, understood as that which causes the entire cycle of cause and effect

I’ve observed over the years that things happen to people for a reason. Call it fate, call it destiny but I believe you reap what you sow. That if you do good, good will come to you.

I’ve been blessed in life.

I have a wonderful husband who loves me and I love him back, he’s kind to me, he wants to spend time with me, he’s loving and affectionate, sweet and kind and is the best dad to our two wonderful children. Our girls are healthy, yes we have our struggles but they are essentially good girls who’ve been taught good values and right from wrong.

I surround myself with positive friends and people who uplift me, we like me for who I am, who I enjoy spending time with, who I appreciate and who appreciate me.

We’re not well-off financially, in fact we just get by and sometimes squander on things that have immediately gratification instead of saving for a “rainy day” and being sensible. We like to be adventurous, silly and impulsive. Its what makes us happy and keeps us going.

“The Wheel Turns” they say and sometimes a fork in the road comes along and we all need to make choices. Occasionally our Karma springs a leak and we take the wrong path, we make mistakes but essentially what is important is that we get back on the right path, try and make up for our mistakes and keep on plodding down the path of respectable values.

How you live your life depends on how life will treat you.

Be kind to one another and always do the right thing.

Piles of things with no shirt because it "itches"

Yesterday when I arrived to collect KK from school, she was sitting in the middle of the rugby field outside trying to get her "closed shoes" on. (that's what she calls them) See picture on the left.

She was in tears and kept screaming "My Shoes are Broken!" but they were not. Of course they weren't. She was just struggling to get them on. I don't buy her shoes with laces anymore (its just too frustrating for her and causes meltdowns).

So, I buy her the shoes with either velcro or that are elasticated so she can get them on and off easily (or so I thought).

Back to my story...

KK's sitting there, alone, sobbing with one shoe in her hand, her face soaked with tears, her skin red from rubbing the tears away, her eyes starting to get all puffy and her hair full of dry grass because she'd flung herself backwards lying on the grass with frustration.

I went up to her, sat down next to her on the grass and with a sigh of relief from KK that mummy had arrived, and a high-pitched full-volume screech to announce: "I can't get my fucking shoe on". I held her tight, let her have her wee cry, calmed her down, helped her put her shoe on.

A little boy came up to us while I was putting her shoe back on and asked me "Why is Kaylin crying to loud?". I told him that she couldn't get her shoe on without help.... and then it happened! Kaylin spotted this child's dirty, muddy toes!

She freaked the fuck out!!

I mean she literally behaved liked she'd seen something from Exorcist - horrific that terrified her! Her eyes bulged, her mouth formed a perfect O and from her seated position on the grass, she crab-walked actually crab-ran backwards at top speed before falling on to her back again. She started screeching "I don't like dirty feet! I - HATE - HIS - DIRTY - TOES!".

Well, all I could do was hold her again, tight, while she sobbed and trembled, more tears, more snot, more fret but eventually recovered from the horror of the boys dirty feet being remotely near her!

Oh the horror!

It took me half an hour to get her calmed down and walk herself to the car.

Other things she does:

Rows of things

Closes her ears with loud or irritating sounds

But talks at full volume most of the time.

Overwhelming emotions

Listening to her own voice and repetitive words through filtered ears

and yet thinks she's an angel princess

Anything to do with water calms her down and enthralls her for hours!

Has an amazing bond and love for animals

A unique wee person who keeps me on my toes, gives me grey hair and nightmares
